Original black-and-white photograph showing farmers at work in a Texas field as they use a threshing machine and separator to harvest wheat. An accompanying description by the Associated Press is typed in black ink on beige paper and summarizes the depicted scene. Dated June 26, 1938 on typed description. Photo: 9" x 7." Typed description (folded): 6" x 6 1/2." Photograph is very clean and intact except for a few wrinkles and slight edge wear. Description is clean and intact except for age toning, a tiny closed tear at top, and a few wrinkles. A Very Good copy. An original photograph by the Associated Press. The photo shows farm workers in Texas harvesting wheat during the Depression era using a threshing machine and separator. Bundles of wheat are piled in the foreground as the machines, in the middleground sending up clouds of smoke, separate the wheat. The separated straw is then expelled from another part of the separator as seen in the background. The photo has a black ink stamp crediting the photo to the Associated Press. The typed description also identifies the photo as an Associated Press photo. The typed description reads, in part, "(Series on 1938 Wheat Harvest); Breadline in Texas; Full steam ahead, this coal-burning old-style Texas threshing outfit is belching smoke at one end and straw at another as harvest hands pile bundles of cut wheat into it. The locomotive-like machine furnishes the power; another machine--a separator--digests the bundles of wheat, winnowing out the grain and glowing out the straw (background).
